Drywood Colony Information
The drywood species is larger than southwestern subterranean species.
Both subterranean and dry wood feed on wood. The biggest difference between the two is that dry wood cut across hard wood grain while subterranean feed on soft wood grain.
Moisture in wood is important for the the dry wood. As the dry wood ingests wood it digests cellulose to break down the wood in to simpler compounds so that the parasite can absorb the wood as food.
